Geeta University Welcomes the Bagless Days Initiative: Ushering in a New Era of Learning

The way we approach education is evolving rapidly, and it’s no secret that the traditional focus on theoretical knowledge, especially at the middle school level, can sometimes limit the development of practical skills and creativity. To address this, the Ministry of Education has recently launched the “Bagless Days” initiative, which aims to break away from the monotonous, textbook-heavy learning methods typically used in Indian schools. I am incredibly excited to see this new initiative, announced recently to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), take shape.
At Geeta University, we have always placed great importance on hands-on learning, and we are thrilled to share that our Summer Camp program has already embraced many of the principles behind the Bagless Days initiative. Now, with the Education Ministry’s formal implementation, we are eager to extend this approach to a wider group of students.
What is the Bagless Days Initiative?
The Bagless Days initiative is designed to make practical, vocational learning an integral part of the middle school curriculum. Instead of being an extra-curricular activity, schools have been instructed to include these sessions in their academic calendars, providing students with 10 days of hands-on, real-world learning experiences. These sessions can be spread across the academic year or organized in one go. The primary objective is to help students apply theoretical concepts in real-life situations, which is key to making learning more meaningful and relevant.
Our Role at Geeta University
As a university that strongly believes in the power of practical learning, the Bagless Days initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of bridging the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world application. At Geeta University, we are ready to welcome more middle schoolers to our campus, expanding our Summer Camp offerings and helping them acquire valuable vocational skills. Not only will students gain practical knowledge, but they’ll also get a feel for the vibrant, innovative environment of our university.
Activities and Learning Beyond the Classroom
The activities outlined in the Bagless Days initiative are thoughtfully designed to expose students to various vocational skills that reflect local skilling needs. This will allow students to gain a better understanding of different career paths, and, most importantly, help them recognize and nurture their own talents.
At Geeta University, we have designed a rich array of activities for our Summer Camp. These include:
-Welcoming students with an engaging orientation program
– Psychometric testing to assess individual strengths and interests
– Cognitive skill-building activities such as word association and tower-building games
– Introduction to digital technology through hands-on projects in website development, artificial intelligence tools, and data analysis
– Fun, engaging sessions in sports, yoga, dance, photography, and more
– Exciting activities like nature walks, treasure hunts, and crime scene investigations
– Health-focused activities, including BMI measurement, diet planning, and kitchen gardening
What makes our program even more special is that every participating student is awarded certificates and recognition based on their performance. This boosts their confidence and inspires them to participate in similar programs in the future.
